The last quarter of the journey begins with a ferry ride across Lake Michigan. From Ludington, Michigan to the Ohio State Line south of Ann Arbor is two and a half days of riding. The rest of Ohio takes about three days. The southwest corner of Pennsylvania about two and a half. Maryland then completes the journey occupying about three days. Michigan and Western Ohio are pleasant and easy. From there on, the riding becomes more challenging. From Cumberland to Hancock was easily the toughest day. And despite the abundance of motels in the east, the last night on the road brought the only “no vacancy” signs of the entire trip.
